We design for the local climate, so surfaces stay walkable in July and finishes hold up to sun and hard water.

A backyard here is not a backyard anywhere else
Southern Utah is hard on outdoor construction in ways that catch people out. Summer surface temperatures make the wrong paver painful to walk on barefoot. Hard water leaves scale on tile and pool finishes. Intense UV fades cheap composites and breaks down sealants years early. Monsoon rain arrives all at once, so grading and drainage matter more here than in a mild climate.
We pick materials for those conditions rather than for a catalog photo. Lighter, thicker pavers that shed heat and stay cooler underfoot. Pool finishes and tile that stand up to our water chemistry. Shade built where the afternoon sun actually lands, which is rarely where people assume. Drainage planned before the first pour, so a summer storm runs off the patio instead of toward the house.
The other thing that separates a good backyard from a frustrating one is who is running it. A pool contractor, a hardscape crew, a landscaper, and an outdoor kitchen installer working from four different schedules is how backyards sit half finished through an entire summer. How long does it take to build a pool?
A new pool is a multi stage build, and the schedule depends on design, permitting, and inspections between phases. Excavation and shell go quickly, then plumbing, decking, tile, and plaster each need their turn. We give you a phase by phase timeline in your written scope so you know what is happening when.
What kind of pool holds up best in Southern Utah?
Gunite and shotcrete shells handle our ground and temperature swings well and let us build any shape. The bigger decision is the interior finish and tile, because our hard water is what shows wear first. We walk you through finishes that resist scale and hold color in this much sun.
Do pavers get too hot to walk on here?
Some do. Color, thickness, and material all change surface temperature, and dark dense pavers get brutal by July. We steer you toward lighter, thicker options and travertine where it fits, and we place shade so the paths you use barefoot are not the ones baking all afternoon.
Is artificial turf worth it in Utah?
For many yards, yes. It stays green through a St. George summer, cuts irrigation, and handles dogs and traffic. It does get hotter than living grass, so we usually mix it with shade or keep it out of full afternoon sun. We will tell you honestly where turf makes sense and where it will not.
Do I need a permit for a pool or a patio?
Pools always need permits and inspections, and so does anything involving gas, electrical, or structural shade. Flat hardscape sometimes does not, but setbacks and drainage rules still apply. We handle permitting and inspections as part of the project.
